Bulgaria will launch on Tuesday a BGN 66 million project for the upgrade of the railway section connecting the southern towns of Pazardzhik and Stamboliyski. The project is part of a wider plan for the rehabilitation of the railway section connecting Septemvri, in the Pazardzhik area, with Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria.
Following the upgrade of the Pazardzhik-Stamboliyski railway stretch, co-financed by the EU under the operational programme Transport 2007-2013, the speed of trains running on this section is expected to increase to 160 kilometers per hour. The Septemvri-Plovdiv railway stretch is to be launched by the end of 2015 at the cost of BGN 257 million.
